Nutritionist shares very simple morning routine that will make you lose weight

There’s a reason so many people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

You might be tempted to skip it as a way to cut calories, but the experts at BBC Good Food warn against this.

Nicola Shubrook, registered nutritionist, said: “Having breakfast has been shown to not only help you make better food choices throughout the day, it also better supports your metabolism and blood sugar balancing. Both of these can help with weight loss.”

But, before breakfast make sure you drink a large glass of water, as this has been proven to aid weight loss over time.

If you are going for a breakfast rich in carbs, the expert advised that slimmers avoid eating them on their own – no matter what time of day it is.

She said: “Always eat them with good fats or protein to ensure that you feel fuller for longer and can control your blood sugar better.

“The danger is you could end up craving more sugar or eating more throughout the day.”

Incorporating protein into your breakfast is a great weight loss hack. She said: “When you eat protein, it takes the body longer to turn it into (blood) glucose than if it was simple carbohydrates – carbs are already a form of sugar.

“Therefore, having protein every time you eat provides the body with steadier blood sugar control, greater satiety and reduced sugar cravings. This means you’ll eat less throughout the day and lose weight.”

Even if you’re prone to rushing in the mornings, try your best to slow down when eating your first meal.

Chewing is the first step in the digestive process, and not chewing properly puts a strain on the digestive system. Not only this, you will likely overeat as the brain won’t have time to register you are full.

Many people rely on coffee throughout the day to keep their energy levels up, but Nicola recommended holding off until after breakfast.

She explained: “Drinking coffee on an empty stomach first thing in the morning can cause a spike in cortisol, your stress hormone, and your blood sugar (glucose), both of which affect your energy and metabolism overall.

“However, drinking black coffee after breakfast helps to slow down glucose production which means it produces fewer fat cells.”
