Jacket potatoes with crispy skin and fluffy insides take just 20 minutes to cook

There are few ingredients that are easier or cheaper to cook than potatoes, and they can even be used as the main event of a meal with the right sides.

With the right cooking method, raw spuds can be cooked perfectly in less than half an hour, and all takes is an air fryer.

One TikTok user has shared her recipe to make jacket potatoes in the energy-efficient appliance, which not only cuts time but is one of the cheaper appliances to use.

Nisha Parmar (@nishascookingagain_ ) said: “If you’re not already roasting your jacket potatoes in an air fryer then you’re missing out on crispy skin and creamy fluffy insides!

“It’s quicker and much cheaper energy-wise vs. a conventional oven.”

Whether it’s enjoyed for lunch or dinner, these golden jacket potatoes are the perfect warming meal for those autumn days.

Nisha added: “I love the cold and warm contrast and crunchy textures. I am also a big fan of beans and cheese.”

To start, the TikTok chef took a large white potato and pierced it with a sharp knife a few times over the skin.

She then drizzled olive oil over the raw skin and sprinkled a large amount of sea salt on top for added crunch.

The potato was then placed in the basket of the appliance and set to 190C on the roast setting rather than “air crisp”.

Nisha left the potato inside the air fryer for 45 minutes and claimed that “it comes out beautiful every time – so much cheaper and quicker”.

While it still takes some time, it beats waiting an hour and a half which is how long it usually takes to bake a crunchy jacket potato in the oven.

However, one savvy TikTok user found an even quicker way to cook the spud from raw, using a combination of the microwave and air fryer.

The social media account which goes by the name @Aly&Ari commented: “Microwave for eight minutes pop into air fryer for another 10 minutes until crispy. Half the time and it’s so good.”

Another said: “I sit mine in cold salty water for 20 minutes and then only cook it for 20 [minutes] in the air fryer, comes out PERFECT.”
