Jamie Oliver discusses his staple store cupboard essentials
The flapjack description reads: “Embracing store-cupboard ingredients, these tasty little morsels are sure to go down a treat for grown-ups, big kids and little ones alike.

The recipe makes 16 small flapjack squares, costing just 27p per portion, ideal for anyone on a budget.
It requires just five ingredients as it’s from the chef’s 5 Ingredients – Quick & Easy Food by Jamie Oliver book.
The first step is to preheat the oven to 180C and line a deep 20cm square baking tin with greaseproof paper.

Ingredients:
100g unsalted butter, at room temperature
100g mixed dried fruit and nuts
100g porridge oats
100g self-raising flour
100g golden syrup
Method:
1. Start by pulsing the butter, dried fruit and nuts, oats and flour in a food processor until the mix comes together and away from the sides.

2. After this, slowly pulse in the golden syrup until the mixture is fully combined.
3. Transfer the flapjack mixture into the lined tin, flattening it to the edges so it cooks evenly.
4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and remove from the oven.
5. Slice into 16 squares and leave to cool in the tin for five minutes before lifting it out onto a wire rack.
6. Leave on the rack to cool completely before eating.
If you don’t have any golden syrup to hand, Jamie recommended trying sugar, honey or even maple syrup in its place.
When it comes to dried fruit and nuts, you can use whatever combo you fancy, or leave them out altogether.
