Asda issues product recall for pasta ready meal following allergen alert

Asda has issued an allergen warning to customers who have purchased select batches of the OMV! Mac ‘N’ No Cheese ready meal.

The supermarket explained that the decision to recall the popular product was taken to protect consumers with “an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents”.

It comes after the possible presence of undeclared ingredients was discovered.

A risk statement issued by the Food Standards Agency revealed: “This product may contain milk making it a possible health risk.”

The recall was issued on Friday, May 26, and has been applied to three specific batches of the product.

Instead, customers should return the unused item to the store from where it was purchased where they will receive a full refund.

Asda reassured shoppers that they do not need the receipt to be reimbursed for the product, adding that they are “very sorry for any inconvenience caused”.

Shoppers affected by the recall can contact the supermarket’s customer relations department on 0800 952 0101 for more information.

In addition to allergen concerns over the recall, the product is also problematic for people who follow a vegan diet.

The “possible” presence of milk in the affected batches means that the product is not in fact entirely plant-based.

While it is not guaranteed that there is in fact dairy contained in the ready meal, shoppers have been urged to return the item under all circumstances.
