Julie’s Oven Fried Chicken

I wanted to make a southern fried chicken dish, but didn’t want all the calories of deep frying. It turned out surprisingly well!


  1. 1 package chicken drumsticks (6 count)
  2. For the coating.
  3. 1 cup all purpose flour
  4. 1 cup corn meal
  5. 1 TBS. black pepper
  6. 2 tsp. garlic salt
  7. 2 tsp. Cayenne pepper
  8. 2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  9. 2 tsp. paprika
  10. 1 raw egg
  11. 1/2 cup milk
  12. 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients together.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk the raw egg and milk together.

  4. Dip each drumstick in the egg mixture and then coat well with the flour mixture.

  5. Lay drumsticks in a 9×11 baking dish. Coat generously with extra virgin olive oil (about 1/2 cup).

  6. Bake uncovered in a 350°F oven for an hour.

  7. I served them with fresh baked buttermilk biscuits.
