Fried bao (mantao)

Mostly served at Chinese restaurant, this dessert is quite easy to make, i add some cocoa powder to colouring ^^


  1. 200 gr self raising flour
  2. 100 gr warm water
  3. 5 gr yeast
  4. 5 gr oil
  5. 16 gr sugar
  6. 5 gr vanila essence
  7. 1 pinch salt
  8. 1 sprinkle of cocoa powder
  9. serve with condensed milk or *sweetened coconut sauce or *coconut egg custard


  1. Add water, yeast, sugar, vanila essence, salt, mix well

  2. Add in flour, knead for 2 minutes to strech the gluten, set aside in a bowl with little oil, cover up proof for an hour

  3. Flatten the dough, sprinkle with cocoa powder, roll up, cut into 6 pieces

  4. Steam for 12 minutes with high heat, set aside to cool, you can keep it for next cooking

  5. Fry bao till golden, mine its getting browned because of cocoa powder 🙁 drain and serve
