Weight loss goals can be achieved with a nutritious diet and exercise plan. Eating foods high in protein can help slimmers stay fuller for longer and burn excess fat.

Not only can protein help build muscle, it can help dieters tone their waistline, according to experts at Healthline.com.

They stated: “Protein is the single most important nutrient for weight loss and a better looking body.

“A high protein intake boosts metabolism, reduces appetite and changes several weight-regulating hormones.

“Protein can help you lose weight and belly fat, and it works via several different mechanisms.”

One study published in the National Library of Medicine showed participants burned 260 more calories a day by overfeeding on a high protein diet.

Animal products such as meat and fish are known for being high in protein.

Experts at Blackwolf Workout revealed six lesser known ways to eat more protein.

Eggs

They said: “Eggs are one of the healthiest foods in the world, packed full of vitamins and minerals.

“The majority of egg whites is protein, with the yolk containing lots of protein also. A single large egg contains around six grams of protein.”

Kidney beans

Eating kidney beans may be one of the best ways to get protein when missing meat, they said.

The experts continued: “Kidney beans are sometimes known as ‘poor man’s meat’ due to the nutritional value they can offer to be almost on par with meat.”

Cottage cheese

“Cheese is often considered unhealthy due to the amount of fats it contains,” they said.

“Cottage cheese, however, is low in fat and calories but is also full of calcium and phosphorus.

“It is also full of casein, which provides the majority of the protein found in the cheese. It is especially effective with muscle building due to it being a slowly absorbed protein.”

Lentils

A spokesperson said: “Lentils are often used as a meat substitute due to them being a great source of protein.

“As well as being full of protein they’re also a great source of other nutrients which can help keep a body healthy and can also help lower the risk of heart disease.”

Broccoli

As well as being high in protein, slimmers can stay full with the high fibre content in broccoli.

The experts added: “Full of fibre and potassium, broccoli is also a great source of protein.”

Soybeans

“Soybeans are commonly used to help create vegan alternatives such as soy milk,” they explained.

“Along with being full of protein, they also add carbs and fat to any meal. However, soy allergy can be quite common so it’s important to be cautious when first trying soybeans.”
