Dieters may try to hit weight loss goals for a number of reasons. These can be reached by following a healthy diet plan and with regular exercise.
Some foods may be better than others when trying to achieve sustainable weight loss results, Dr Mosley said.
He commented on the benefits of a Mediterranean diet for improving health and maintaining a healthy weight.
The expert stated: “Ultimately, it comes down to balance of protein, fibre and healthy fats, which is essentially the Mediterranean Diet.
“The good news is, a low carb Mediterranean Diet has unique power not just to restore your body’s ability to reach its ideal weight and stay there, but also to cut your risk of serious disease.
“It doesn’t come from a place of restriction but rather it’s about eating more of the right foods.
“Not only will these foods keep you feeling full, they offer important nutrients and health benefits, and taste delicious.”
What should you eat?
The expert shared some of the best foods to eat when following the diet plan.
Eggs
“Boiled, poached, scrambled or as an omelette – they’ll keep you feeling fuller for longer compared to cereal or toast,” Dr Mosley said.
“They are delicious with greens and Parmesan or smoked salmon and a sprinkle of chilli.”
Full fat yogurt
Opting for the dairy product could be a good way to consume more protein and stay feeling full.
He continued: “Choose a plain Greek-style yogurt and add berries, like blackberries, strawberries or blueberries for flavour. Or a sprinkling of nuts.”
Eat vegetables
The expert detailed: “Eat plenty of different coloured veg, from dark leafy greens to bright-red and yellow capsicum.
“More variety of colours means more variety of nutrients.”
Dairy products
As well as tucking into yogurt, the expert added other sources of dairy also provide health benefits.
Dr Mosley explained they are often high in protein which can help slimmers feel full.
Food high in protein can also boost the metabolism which promotes fat-burning.
“Recent research has found that these do not cause diabetes,” Dr Mosley concluded.
“They are a good source of calcium and protein. Dairy helps you feel fuller for longer.
“Choose full-fat but eat in moderation as it can be high in calories.
“A scattering of Parmesan can be used on baked vegetables to add flavour and protein.”
