Weight loss requires a healthy diet plan and regular exercise. Supplements such as apple cider vinegar could also help burn fat.

Apple cider vinegar can be picked up from most supermarkets and health stores.

It can be made into various recipes or drinks and is thought to have some weight loss benefits.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, nutritionist Lily Soutter explained the supplement can help weight loss.

She added it has been shown to speed up fat-burning in the body.

“Studies show that enjoying a daily dose of apple cider vinegar alongside a balanced diet may help you to reach your weight loss goals,” Lily commented.

“This may be due to apple cider vinegar’s rich content of acetic acid which is responsible for its characteristic tangy flavour.

“Whilst it is not yet fully understood why this happens, it is thought that acetic acid may stimulate a pathway which reduces the storage of fat, whilst increasing the rate at which the body burns fat.

“This may help you to achieve a healthy weight.”

The expert highlighted studies that show apple cider vinegar could help break down fat, leading to sustainable weight loss results.

How much should you have?

In one study published in the US National Library of Medicine, the supplement was taken by 175 obese participants.

They were given either one or two spoonfuls a day and all reported weight loss results.

Those who had one tablespoon of vinegar a day lost an average of 2.6 pounds during a three month period.

Slimmers who took two tablespoons had even better results of 3.7 pounds during the course of the trial.

Lily agreed having one to two tablespoons a day could give the best results.

She continued: “By consuming 15ml to 30ml of apple cider vinegar per day in a diluted format, you can achieve health outcomes, as seen in clinical trials, such as weight loss, blood glucose control and improved cardiovascular health.

“There is strong evidence that shows up to one to two tablespoons at each meal is safe and this remains the recommended daily consumption for apple cider vinegar.”

There are many ways apple cider vinegar can be added into a diet plan.

The condiment can be diluted in water or blitzed into a smoothie.

It can also be used in cooking or made into a salad dressing.
