Skipping breakfast and rushing out the door to work increases the likelihood of reaching for sugary snacks later on in the day.
Better Health stated: “Breakfast is often called ‘the most important meal of the day’, and for good reason.”
Not only does a nutritious morning meal break the overnight fasting period, and boosts energy levels by replenishing the body’s supply of glucose, it’s a powerful weight loss tool.
According to Better Health, making time to eat breakfast in the mornings leads to “better weight management, reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes and heart disease”.
The website recommended that those looking to stabilise their weight enjoy breakfast foods such as porridge, wholewheat cereal, fruit, nuts, smoothies and natural yoghurt.
For a nutritious meal fit for a king, dieters can enjoy wholemeal toast with “baked beans, poached or boiled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, salmon, cheese and avocado”.
Healthline maintained that eating a high-protein breakfast decreases levels of ghrelin, the “hunger hormone”, in the body.
They added: “Starting your morning with a glass or two of water is an easy way to enhance weight loss.”
This “minimal method” weight loss trick works because it “increases your energy expenditure, or the number of calories your body burns, for at least 60 minutes”.
Switching up the commute to work is also a great way to lose weight; walking, cycling, and even using public transport are all better for your waistline than driving.
A study found in the National Library of Medicine reviewed 822 people over four years and found that those who commuted by car gained more weight overall than non-car commuters.
Not using public transport at all if possible is the best option for weight loss, as it means dieters can soak up the sun rays.
Healthline explained: “Exposure to sunlight is also the best way to meet your vitamin D needs. Some studies have found that meeting your Vitamin D requirements can aid in weight loss and even prevent weight gain.”
If walking to work isn’t viable, making time for a quick morning workout is a great way to kickstart the day and burn calories.
Celebrity personal trainer Bradley Simmonds told Express.co.uk: “I always recommend that you do exercise when it’s the best time for you. But if you can do exercise in the morning is the best way to start your day. I love a good sweat in the morning.”
A study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that those who exercised before midday lost more weight than those who worked out later in the day.
One benefit of morning exercise is that it keeps blood sugar levels steady throughout the day, curbing excessive hunger.
Finally, waking up just one hour early means having time to make a healthy lunch to take to work.
While it’s extremely easy to grab a meal deal or takeaway during a lunch break, putting together a packed lunch ensures that dieters can keep track of their calorie intake easily.
Overall, adopting mindful morning habits helps people start their days on the right foot, and in turn encourages healthy eating and good decision making.
