According to the chef, he started by changing his diet plan and exercise routine, but not radically. As he didn’t want to stop eating what he likes the most, he chose to make healthier alternatives to his favourite meals following the popular “dopamine diet”.

The English chef, who has appeared on the Great British Menu or MasterChef, used to weigh around 30 stone, but in a short period of time, he managed to lose almost half of it.

Tom admitted to drinking 15 pints every night, which contributed to his weight gain.

The chef realised that could severely affect his life and possibly increase the risk of early death so he decided to quit drinking and adding exercise to his daily routine.

However, what completely transformed his body and helped him lose 12 stone was a simple change to his diet.

The chef decided to cut down on the amount of carbs and started following a dopamine diet.

The dopamine diet is also known as the “happy” weight loss plan.

It consists of eating food that boosts your levels of the “happy hormone” so the diet is much easier to follow.

The dopamine diet improves your mood as it increases levels of dopamine in the brain at the same time as losing weight.

“It’s impossible to lose weight and keep the weight off for good if you don’t enjoy what you’re eating,” the chef said.

For him, the dopamine plan is basically following a diet but still loving what you eat.

“The cooking techniques mean there’s no compromise on flavour and you’re promised a generous plate of food!”

But what foods can you consume in order to get the “happy boost”?

The chef explained that adding foods that are high in protein make the recipes a success.

Make sure you include vegetables, tinned beans, eggs and dairy products, which Tom called his “dopamine heroes”.

Although it’s essential to cut out sugar, the chef explained that you can still enjoy some treats like dark chocolate while losing weight.

He also recommended eating lots of fish, and fruit.“Oily fish such as salmon, sea bass, trout, tuna, sardines and mackerel are high in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D,” he explained.

Top ingredients to boost dopamine:

Dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt

Unprocessed meats such as beef, chicken and turkey

Omega-3 rich fish such as salmon and mackerel

Eggs

Fruit and vegetables, in particular bananas

Nuts such as almonds and walnuts

Dark chocolate
