Since taking on the roll since the start of EastEnders in 1985, Letitia’s weight has noticeably fluctuated. How did she lose it?

Letitia may be slim now, but maintaining a healthy weight hasn’t always been easy.

In the public eye, she often received nasty comments about her size.

Speaking on EastEnders’ spin-off show Secrets from the Square last year, Letitia revealed: “I had quite a lot of horrible things said about me. ‘She’s too fat, the other actors complain they can’t fit on the same set with her’.”

She was only 17 when she started on the show.

Like many celebrities, such as this year’s Judi Love, participating on Strictly in 2007 helped Letitia knock off the pounds.

She told Closer magazine in 2009: “It started with Strictly Come Dancing because I felt great by the end of the show and the live tour.”

Letitia even came in fourth place with dance partner Darren Bennett.

“But the main reason I wanted to do something about my figure was that I was so sick of extreme dieting and my weight yo-yoing.”

The actress admitted that she had tried every fad diet under the sun: “The cabbage soup diet, the Atkins and a really disgusting eggs-only diet.”

Her appetite for dancing was not fully satisfied after Strictly, and she embarked on another performance venture, taking to the stage for a live High School Musical show.

She did this with a cast of energetic twentysomethings.

In conversation with Closer, Letitia revealed: “I started going to the gym for the first time last year and now I’ve grown to love it – running and boxercise are now my favourite things.”

A self-proclaimed bad cook, Letitia was constantly ordering takeaways.

To lose weight, she reduced her calorie intake to 1300 calories per day.

She assured The Daily Record that even when spending long days in rehearsals for High School Musical, “I made a point of taking food I’d prepared at home to the theatre in a Tupperware container.

“And, because it was healthy food – pitta bread with a grilled skinless chicken breast, for instance, and lots of greens – the effect was incredible. I found I had so much more energy than when I used to eat junk food.”

As well as overhauling her diet, she was whipped into shape by Dee Thresher, who had helped Letitia’s fellow EastEnders costars Charlie Brooks and Natalie Cassidy lose weight.

The Daily Record reported that Dee devised 55-minute dance workout DVDs, which had Letitia “hip-wiggling”.

“So it has that kind of showgirl vibe. But there are also some pretty hardcore periods of high intensity calorie-burning, with sprinting, squats and jacks.”

The result of her hard work? In just four months, Letitia went from 10 stone four pounds to eight stone three pounds, and dropped four dress sizes.
