Feeling good is something everyone wants, but Joe Wicks revealed it largely depends on the food people eat. Some foods can affect a person negatively, causing stress and frustration whereas others can have the opposite effect.
These are the ones people need to identify for their diet, especially when it comes to losing weight.
Finding healthy foods that makes people feel good can be tricky, especially as dieting can already be a challenge and cravings for snacks comes into the equation.
But Joe, who released his new book Feel Good Food earlier this year, suggests people need to try more food to find what works for them.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, he explained: “Sometimes it’s trial and error.
“You might be eating one thing and feel great and then next year it doesn’t agree with you.
“Sometimes it’s about trying different food and thinking about how food affects your mood.”
He added: “There’s certain foods that when you eat them make you tired, grumpy, stressed and frustrated
“They’re the type of foods you need to remove from your diet.”
According to WebMD, eating lots of processed meat, fried food, refined cereals, candy, pastries, and high-fat dairy products, are “more likely” to cause anxiety and depression.
Whereas if a person’s diet is packed with whole fibre-rich grains, fruits, vegetables and fish, they can feel “a lot better” and be losing weight at the same time.
“People sometimes forget how much food affects our mental health and our mood,” Joe explained.
Some of the top healthy mood boosting foods that are often found on a weight loss diet plan include:
Nuts and seeds
Dopamine, a neurotransmitter made in the brain that is also commonly referred to as the “happiness chemical”, can be found in many foods.
It helps people feel pleasure as part of the brain’s reward system and foods that include dopamine can trigger a release, leading to increased motivation.
Before a workout or doing any form of exercise, people are advised to eat to fuel their bodies, but their brains also need additional nutritional support to achieve peak performance.
Foods that are especially good for boosting dopamine levels include:
Dairy foods – Milk, cheese and yogurt
Unprocessed meats – Beef, chicken and turkey
Omega-3 – Salmon, mackerel and other fish
Fruit and vegetables – bananas
