Adele first gained recognition after the release of her multi-award winning albums, 19, and 21. As well as releasing chart-topping power ballads, Adele has recently caught attention after reportedly shedding seven stone. An expert revealed intermittent fasting (IF) could be the secret to her transformation.
- Diet plan: Eating more of this food can burn fat fast
Although Adele has not revealed exactly how she slimmed down, an expert revealed the plan that could be behind the weight loss.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, nutritional therapist at feedmehealthy.co.uk, Kelly Vines, told Express.co.uk why Adele may have used intermittent fasting.
She said: “It has recently been alleged that Adele has been intermittent fasting, like many fans of this diet she probably chose to do IF as it’s a lifestyle change rather than a strict ‘no-fun’ diet.
“I like this style of diet as it is relatively easy to follow, it’s not strict with food, it’s a slow approach and it’s easy to be consistent.
“At the end of the day, this is the key to weight loss and keeping it off long term.”
What is intermittent fasting?
The simple diet plan requires slimmers to keep track of when they eat and consume all meals within a set time frame.
Kelly added: “Intermittent fasting is more of a pattern of eating rather than a diet due to the nature of how it is concerned with periods of eating and not eating.”
There are different versions of intermittent fasting that Adele may have picked from.
Kelly said: “This is where you eat within a certain number of hours, giving the digestive system a rest for the remaining hours of the day.
“For example 16/8 is where you would eat all your daily meals within an eight hour window and not eat for 16 hours.
“A typical day could be 9am to 5pm if you’re more of a breakfast person, or 11am to 7pm if you prefer to eat dinner a little later.
“You can expect to lose approx. 0.25kg per week depending on your weight and which pattern you choose.”
Alternate day eating
“This is where you essentially fast for 24 hours, drinking just water and herbal teas, then eat normally the next day,” Kelly explained.

“This is then repeated but you are only fasting for two days a week. You can expect to lose a little more weight per week on this pattern, approx. 0.75kg per week.”
She explained: “This is eating normally for five days a week, with the other two days seeing calories restricted to approx. 500 calories for women and 600 calories for men.
“Weight losses of approx. 0.5kg per week are observed with this diet pattern.”
If Adele did follow one of those plans, the expert explained she would not necessarily need to count calories.
Kelly added: “With all of these diets you don’t really need to watch your calories, apart from the 5:2 fast days, but the weight loss does come from the calorie deficit over the week as a total.”
In the past, it has been claimed Adele followed the Sirtood diet which involves different phases of eating.
During the first phase, dieters eat 1,000 calories a day and drink a particular vegetable juice.
The next phase lasts two weeks and dieters add in foods such as dark chocolate, apples and capers.
