We’re just days away from Memorial Day Weekend, which normally would mark the start of a glorious summer. That’s uh… probably not going to be the case this year if we’re being honest. But a global pandemic doesn’t affect the weather (at least as far as we know), so people will still need frosty beverages to help them keep their cool as we head towards the dog days of a pretty lame year.
Luckily, Taco Bell has the situation under control. As a nice contrast after heating things up with the recently-unveiled Flamin’ Hot Doritos Locos Taco, the Mexican chain is also offering to help us all cool off with a tropically-tinged drink they’re calling the Pineapple Whip Freeze.
Dropping on May 21, just in time for this fraudulent Memorial Day weekend, this frozen treat mixes up sweet vanilla cream with a pineapple whip, plus a (non-edible) green lid to really drive the pineapple aesthetic home. Though they’d probably never admit to it, it wouldn’t shock me to learn that Disney’s classic Dole Whip served as an inspiration for the Pineapple Whip Freeze behind the scenes.

Lest any pineapple haters think that Taco Bell doesn’t care about their beverage preferences, this isn’t the only freeze on the menu. You’ll also find a Wild Strawberry Freeze, a Tie-Dye freeze (if you ask for it from the “secret menu”). There’s also the holy grail of all frozen beverages: the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze. In short, there’s something for everyone as long as you like your beverages ice cold.
While you can’t exactly walk into most Taco Bells to sit down and slurp your Pineapple Whip Freeze, you can definitely grab one of these from the drive-thru. Even better, they’re available for just $1 during TB’s “Happier Hour” between 2:00 and 5:00 PM.
So at a time like this that calls for cheap Chalupas and frozen beverages, Taco Bell’s lineup is there for you. Will the Pineapple Whip Freeze and its differently-flavored cousins taste even better with a little rum or tequila? Well, that’s for you to find out.
